Meet Mrs. Suter
Welcome! My name is Stephanie Suter. I have been teaching at Southold since 2002. I began my journey here teaching second grade and after five years, moved up to third. I am fortunate to have grown up on the North Fork and have been privileged to experience the unique closeness and beauty that it has to offer. It is this "specialness" that drew me back and helped me to decide that it is also a very special place to teach.
Education has always been a very important part of my life. I loved school and took the importance of learning very seriously. As early as I can remember, I was playing school in my bedroom immediately after coming home from school myself. I would dress up as the teacher, high heels and all as I tried to reenact my own school day. I think my parents knew my path before I did! (They were right!) From there, I went on to earn my undergraduate degree from The University of Dayton, and went on to earn a Masters degree in Elementary Education from Southampton College.
In my classroom now, reading, writing, and math workshops are at the heart of the learning that takes place every day. I also strive to weave technology into my curriculum and work hard to make my lessons applicable to the real world. Across the curriculum we "travel" around the world, exploring differences and similarities among the cultures. It is my goal to make learning in my classroom purposeful and authentic.
I see education as the main tool that we have to prepare children for their futures. Since it's our students who will become the future leaders and citizens of this world, I feel nothing is more important than a quality education.
In the classroom, my job takes on many roles. I am an academic enthusiast, a cheerleader, a provider of feedback, a learner, and a constructivist- providing the students opportunities to seek the knowledge on their own. It is with pride that I take on these roles.
My goal is to make learning engaging, purposeful, and enjoyable for my students. I look forward to the year we have ahead!
